What is Intlpak's Pulp Lamination Film, and what does it do?
It is a food-contact lamination film bonded onto a molded plant-fiber (pulp) container to give the fiber the functional properties plastic normally provides — heat resistance, oil and moisture barrier, and a safe food-contact surface — while keeping the container mostly fiber. The flagship TPX-PP grades make a pulp container fully dual-ovenable (microwave and conventional oven) up to 160°C and cut plastic usage by up to 85% versus a conventional plastic tray.
What is TPX, and why laminate it onto fiber?
TPX (poly-4-methylpentene) is a specialty resin prized for clarity, low density, and heat resistance to 160°C. Co-extruded with PP as the food-contact layer, it improves thermal stability and, critically, blocks additive and microplastic migration into high-heat, high-fat foods — the pairing most likely to drive migration. Laminating a thin TPX-PP layer onto a plant-fiber base yields a container that performs like plastic but is ~90% fiber.
What grades and thicknesses are available?
TPX-PP: F4408 (35μm, lightest, heat/plastic figures pending), F4407 (50μm, dual-ovenable to 160°C, up to 85% plastic cut), F4403 (70μm, heaviest, dual-ovenable, retort-ready, up to 85% cut). PP/PE: F3131 (43μm, grease/water resistant disposable, data pending) and F3137 (70μm, heavier grade, data pending). Width and length are customized. The TPX-PP grades carry the documented heat/plastic-reduction and FDA/SGS claims; the PP/PE grades are newly listed with mechanical data on request.
What is the difference between the TPX-PP and PP/PE families?
Different objectives. TPX-PP targets molded-fiber containers needing dual-ovenable heat resistance (to 160°C), FDA anti-migration performance, and up to 85% plastic reduction — an ESG-driven upgrade. PP/PE (F3131/F3137) targets ordinary disposable food containers needing grease and water resistance and microwave readiness, without the oven-grade or plastic-reduction claims. If your goal is a plastic-reduction target with oven capability, TPX-PP is the relevant line.
Performance & food safety
Is the 160°C dual-ovenable rating for the film or the finished container?
It is for the finished laminate on a molded-fiber container. F4407 is specified as microwave- and oven-safe up to 160°C; F4403 is specified as dual-ovenable, but its own page does not publish a separate temperature figure — F4407's 160°C is cited only as a same-family indication of the range. Real performance depends on lamination quality, the fiber substrate, and heating time, so validate with your actual container and heating profile — temperature, duration, fat content — rather than inferring from the film specification alone.
How does the TPX layer improve food safety?
By blocking migration. The food-contact surface is an FDA-approved food-grade TPX co-extrusion intended to suppress additive and microplastic migration into food under high heat and high fat — exactly the conditions of reheating an oily meal. That anti-migration behavior is the principal difference between this family and ordinary PP-coated paper containers.
How is the "up to 85% plastic reduction" calculated?
Against a conventional all-plastic tray. When the container body is molded plant fiber, only a thin food-contact film remains as plastic, so total plastic drops sharply — the finished TPX-PP molded fiber container in this family measures 10.75% plastic content versus 100% for a conventional PP container. The exact ratio varies with container size and film gauge.
Do the films resist oil and grease?
Yes. The PP food-contact layer provides a strong oil and grease barrier and resists heat and moisture with minimal additives, so containers hold high-oil, high-sauce meals without softening or leaking. The PP/PE grades (F3131/F3137) are specified specifically for grease- and water-resistance in disposable containers.

What foods and formats are these films used for?
The TPX-PP grades suit ready-to-eat and fresh convenience meals, frozen-to-oven entrees, and premium takeout and catering — especially high-fat dishes, curries, bento meals, and bakery products that need oven reheating. The PP/PE grades suit everyday disposable takeout boxes, microwave-ready meal trays, fried and oily foods, and grease-resistant bakery packaging.
Who buys this film — converters or brands?
Container converters buy the film to laminate onto molded-fiber or paperboard containers. Brands and foodservice operators who want the finished result — without running their own fiber line — can instead adopt Intlpak's finished TPX-PP Laminated Molded Fiber Container (TPX-MFC). The film is the raw material; the container is the finished product.
Comparisons & alternatives
TPX-PP lamination vs ordinary PE-coated paper — what's the difference?
PE-coated paper is microwave-tolerant but softens or degrades at oven temperatures and offers no special anti-migration protection. The TPX-PP laminate is dual-ovenable to 160°C and uses an FDA-approved TPX food-contact layer engineered to block migration under high heat and fat — a meaningfully higher-performance, oven-capable, food-safety-focused option.
F4407 vs F4403 — which TPX-PP gauge should I take?
Container specification and cost decide. F4403 (70μm) gives a heavier film layer for larger, heavier, or high-fat meals, and is retort-ready; F4407 (50μm) is sufficient for most standard tray sizes and uses less material. For maximum light-weighting, F4408 (35μm) exists but its heat and plastic-reduction figures are not yet published.
Molded fiber container vs plastic tray — why switch?
A TPX-PP laminated molded fiber container keeps the functionality of a plastic tray — leak-proof, oil-resistant, oven-safe — while cutting plastic content to ~10.75%, supporting ESG and plastic-reduction goals and single-use-plastic regulations. Cans and rigid plastic win only on tradition; the fiber container is lighter-footprint with comparable performance.

What certifications and food-contact approvals apply?
The films are manufactured under ISO 9001, GMP clean-room production, and ISO 22000 & HACCP food-safety certification. The TPX-PP material is compliant with US FDA 21 CFR 177.1520(c)3.3b and 21 CFR 178.2010, and finished TPX-PP containers have passed SGS food-contact migration and extraction testing. For the PP/PE grades, request current documentation as that line is newly listed.
