EVOH Barrier Film

High-Barrier Thermoforming Film for Vacuum Packaging

F1127 (NLB #80) is built around an EVOH barrier core and runs as the sealing film on continuous automatic forming vacuum lines; once laminated with PET or OPP it completes a full high oxygen-barrier bag structure. At 80μm it delivers the formability, twist resistance, and pinhole resistance needed for reliable vacuum seals, with the transparency and gloss that keep packed products looking clean on shelf.

Where F1127 Is Used

  • 1

    Automatic Forming Vacuum Packaging

Sealing film for continuous automatic forming vacuum packaging, rated to a 15mm forming depth. The nylon (PA) layer carries the forming strength and the EVOH core the oxygen barrier; laminated with PET or OPP it forms a high oxygen-barrier bag on standard thermoforming lines.

  • 2

    Chilled and Frozen Food Packs

Vacuum packaging film for room-temperature, refrigerated, and frozen food. An oxygen transmission rate of 0.8 cc/m²·24h and a water-vapour rate of 9.4 g/m²·24h cover both spoilage routes in one film.

  • 3

MAP Packaging for Meat and Produce

Vacuum, deoxygenation, and Modified Atmosphere Packaging of beef, chicken, pork, seafood, livestock, and agricultural products. Where longer shelf life is needed, 15N01 (0.5) and F1154 (0.31) sit above F1127 in the same series.

  • 4

    Ready-to-Eat and Cured Meat Packs

Packaging of ready-to-eat products such as dried meat, sliced ham, pastry, and beef jerky. At 10% haze the pack stays clear enough for retail shelf display of sliced and portioned product.

Why F1127 Performs

High oxygen barrier — OTR of just 0.8 cc/m²·24hr (20°C, 65% RH) extends shelf life for vacuum-packed food.
Excellent formability — twist resistance without pinholes keeps seals intact through automatic vacuum-forming lines.
High transparency and gloss — keeps vacuum-packed meat and ready-to-eat products looking fresh and shelf-ready.
Forms a complete barrier bag when laminated — pairs with PET or OPP to build a high oxygen-barrier vacuum package.
Robust mechanical strength — 500/460 kg/cm² MD/TD break point stands up to continuous automatic vacuum-forming lines.
Purpose-built for ready-to-eat packaging — suited to dried meat, sliced ham, pastry, and beef jerky sealing lines.

Common Questions

Questions About F1127

F1127 runs 80 μm — how do I choose between it and the 139/150 μm grades?

Forming depth is the dividing line. F1127 is rated to 15 mm — shallow trays. 15N01 (139 μm) covers 10–30 mm; F1154 (150 μm) reaches 40–50 mm. Barrier improves alongside gauge — OTR falls from 0.8 to 0.5 to 0.31 cc/m²·24h. Measure your die depth first: depth picks the grade, barrier comes along with it.

Is OTR 0.8 enough barrier for vacuum-packed fresh meat?

0.8 cc/m²·24h (ISO 14663-2, 20°C, 65% RH) sits firmly in high-barrier territory — combined with vacuum or MAP gas flushing it supports normal chilled and frozen shelf life for beef, pork, poultry and seafood. For longer shelf life or highly oxygen-sensitive products, move up to 15N01 (0.5) or F1154 (0.31). Actual shelf life must be validated against your own product and cold chain.

Can F1127 still form if my die is deeper than 15 mm?

Not recommended. 15 mm is the rated forming depth; past that the film over-stretches at the corners and you risk thinning, wrinkling and pinholes. Switch grade instead — 15N01 handles 10–30 mm and F1154 handles 40–50 mm. Both carry higher MD tensile modulus (5000 and 6400 kg/cm² against F1127's 4400), which is what deep draw requires.

What does F1127 need to be laminated with to make a finished barrier bag?

F1127 runs as the sealing film on the line, built around an EVOH barrier core. Laminated to a PET or OPP web, it completes a full high oxygen-barrier bag structure. It is designed for continuous automatic forming vacuum packaging lines and works across ambient, chilled and frozen distribution.

Which NLB grade is the clearest?

F1127. Its haze measures 10% at 80 μm, against 15% for F1154 and 20% for 15N01 — the clearest and glossiest film in the NLB series, which shows on shelf for sliced ham, jerky and fresh meat. Haze rises with gauge, so a pack that needs a deeper draw trades some clarity for forming depth.

Which film should we use for vacuum-packed cheese and dairy?

Cheese needs oxygen control plus a film that forms without pinholing. F1127 is an 80 μm NY/EVOH/PE thermoforming film with an OTR of 0.8 cc/m²·24h, a WVTR of 9.4 g/m²·24h, 10% haze and a suggested forming depth of 15 mm. For deeper cavities or longer shelf life, 15N01 (0.5) and F1154 (0.31) sit above it in the same series.

How do we know if a forming film is deep enough for our tooling?

Match your die depth to the grade's suggested forming depth, and allow margin at the corners where the film thins most. Intlpak publishes a figure for every thermoforming grade: F1127 is rated to 15 mm, 15N01 to 10–30 mm and F1154 to 40–50 mm. Running a grade past its rated depth thins the barrier layer where the pack can least afford it.
