EVOH Barrier Film

Deep-Draw Thermoforming Film for High-Barrier Vacuum Packs

15N01 (NLB #139) is built around an EVOH barrier core, with the heavier 139μm gauge supporting 10–30mm forming depths — deeper than Intlpak's thinner NLB grades. It offers the best formability in the family, with twist resistance that avoids pinholes even at deeper draws, so vacuum-packed products hold both shape and shelf appearance through forming.

Where 15N01 Is Used

  • 1 Deep-draw thermoforming film for continuous automatic vacuum packaging (10–30mm forming depth)
  • 2 Vacuum packaging film for room-temperature, refrigerated, and frozen food
  • 3 Vacuum, deoxygenation, and Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) of beef, chicken, pork, seafood, livestock, and agricultural products
  • 4 Packaging of ready-to-eat products such as dried meat, sliced ham, pastry, and beef jerky

Why 15N01 Performs

High oxygen barrier — OTR of just 0.5 cc/m²·24hr (20°C, 65% RH), better than the thinner 80μm NLB grades.
Best-in-family formability — twist resistance without pinholes supports deep-draw thermoforming at 10–30mm depths.
High transparency and gloss — keeps deep-formed vacuum packs looking fresh and shelf-ready despite the heavier gauge.
Higher tensile modulus — 5000 kg/cm² MD/TD tensile modulus at 2% supports the added draw depth of deep-formed cavities.
Forms a complete barrier bag when laminated — pairs with PET or OPP film to build a high oxygen-barrier vacuum package.
Purpose-built for ready-to-eat packaging — suited to dried meat, sliced ham, pastry, and beef jerky sealing lines.

Common Questions

Questions About 15N01

15N01 forms 10–30 mm — does that overlap F1154's 40–50 mm?

There is no overlap, and there is a visible gap. 15N01 (139 μm) covers 10–30 mm and F1154 (150 μm) starts at 40 mm, leaving 30–40 mm without a standard grade. If your die lands in that band, send the drawing so our engineers can advise which grade to extend or whether the structure needs adjusting.

139 μm but only 30 mm of draw — does that add up?

It does, because draw depth follows modulus rather than raw thickness. 15N01 measures 5000/5000 kg/cm² MD/TD tensile modulus while F1154 reaches 6400/6000. The stiffer web resists corner thinning under deep draw, which is why an 11 μm gauge difference produces a full step change in forming depth.

Where does 15N01 rank on barrier within the series?

Second. OTR is 0.5 cc/m²·24h — better than F1127 at 0.8, behind F1154 at 0.31. Water vapour transmission of 5 g/m²·24h is effectively level with F1154's 5.1 and well ahead of F1127's 9.4, so where moisture loss matters more than oxidation, 15N01 already delivers near-top-of-range protection.

Does 15N01 run as top or bottom web?

Bottom web. On continuous automatic forming vacuum lines it is heated and formed into the tray holding the product, then sealed to a PET or OPP top web to complete a high-barrier structure. It serves ambient, chilled and frozen distribution, including MAP gas-flushed packs.

15N01 has the series' highest haze at 20% — why would anyone specify it?

Because buyers choosing it are buying depth and barrier, not clarity. At 20% haze it is unproblematic for frozen meat or bulk portioning where the pack is not sold on visibility; where appearance drives sales, F1127 (10%) or F1154 (15%) fit better. Haze rises with gauge and nylon-layer ratio — an unavoidable trade in deep-draw structures.
