A Robust Sealant Layer for Room-Temperature Shelf-Stable Pouches

Laminated into a structure such as PET 12μm // AL // RCPP, F4513 forms the inner sealant layer of a full-barrier retort pouch — the wall that must survive pressurized autoclave sterilization, the standard process for making ready-to-eat foods and certain pharmaceuticals shelf-stable at room temperature. Unlike thinner sealants that can pinhole or weaken under repeated handling and distribution, its 70μm gauge gives converters a tougher, more puncture-resistant pouch wall while still sealing cleanly and reliably at high speed.

F4513 is an RCPP sealant — how does it differ from the EO-RCPP easy-peel films?

Opening behaviour. F4513 is a standard RCPP heat-seal layer built for a permanent, secure seal; EO-RCPP grades such as F45A7 add an easy-peel phase so a consumer can open by hand. Choose F4513 where accidental opening must be prevented or the pack is opened downstream in the plant; choose the easy-peel series where retail hand-opening is required.

F4513 is rated 130°C — can it run a 121°C retort process?

Yes. 130°C is the ceiling, comfortably covering the 121°C pressurized sterilization used for most retort foods. RCPP (Retort CPP) is cast polypropylene developed specifically for retort service, holding seal strength and dimensional stability after sterilization. Validate your exact process with sample material first.

What laminate structure is recommended for F4513?

PET 12 μm // AL 9 μm // RCPP 70 μm — one layer fewer than the easy-peel series, which adds ONY. The PET carries print and heat-stable structure, the foil handles light and oxygen barrier, and F4513 is the 70 μm food-contact sealant. This structure is standard for retort pouches and flexible sterilized meals.

Is 70 μm enough for stand-up or flexible retort pouches?

It is. 70 μm gives ample seal thickness and puncture margin, and is a common inner-layer gauge for flexible sterilized food packs. Where contents include bone or hard fragments, send actual samples so our engineers can assess whether additional gauge or a structural change is warranted.

F4513 publishes no peel-force curve — is the data incomplete?

It isn't a gap; the metric doesn't apply. Peel-force curves characterise easy-peel films, mapping the band where a lid both opens and holds.
