High Barrier PP/EVOH/PE Film F1648-EPL (45μm)
PVE 45 coextrusion film with high oxygen barrier (OTR 1.3 cc/m²·24hr) built around an EVOH barrier core, in an eco-friendly construction. Corona-treated on one side for lamination with PET, OPP, or NY into food, medical, and cosmetics packaging structures.
High-Barrier EVOH Coextrusion Film
F1648-EPL (PVE #45) is a PP/EVOH/PE structure built around an EVOH barrier core, delivering the strongest oxygen-barrier performance in the series at OTR 1.3 cc/m²·24hr — while using less material overall than a foil laminate of comparable barrier.
Where F1648-EPL Is Used
- 1
Easy-Open Food and Medical Packs
Food, medical care, cosmetics, and hygienic cleaning product packaging where the pack has to open cleanly by hand. F1648-EPL is the easy-peel 45μm grade, holding the same 1.3 cc/m²·24h barrier as the conventional-seal F1645.
- 2
Oxygen Barrier Without a Weld Seal
Applications requiring high oxygen-barrier properties. The peelable sealant is engineered to separate at the seal interface at a controlled force, so the pack opens in one piece — without giving up the EVOH core's 1.3 cc/m²·24h barrier.
- 3
Print and Laminate for Lidding
Can be printed or laminated with other film materials. Corona treated on one side and carrying a 5500/5000 kg/cm² modulus, F1648-EPL is used as the sealant layer in lidding laminates rather than as a standalone web.
- 4
Peelable MAP Meat and Seafood Packs
Modified Atmosphere Packaging of fresh beef, chicken, pork, and seafood products. Haze reads 35% against F1645's 7% — the peelable structure trades transparency for the clean opening, so choose on which one the pack sells.
Full Specifications — F1648-EPL (PVEPL #45)
F1648-EPL (PVEPL #45) is the easy-peel 45μm grade in Intlpak's high barrier PP/EVOH/PE film line — a 45 micron easy peel barrier film with a measured oxygen transmission rate (OTR) of 1.3 cc/m²·24h, 35% haze, and a 2% tensile modulus of 5500/5000 kg/cm² (MD/TD). Its full measured properties are shown below alongside F1645, the catalog-listed 45μm sibling in the same family.

Questions About F1648-EPL
F1648-EPL is PP/EVOH/PE — how does that differ from PP/EVOH/PP?
The inner layer. F1648-EPL runs PP on one face and PE on the other, with the PE face giving lower-temperature sealing behaviour; PP/EVOH/PP grades such as F1302 are PP on both faces, offering better heat tolerance but requiring higher seal temperatures. Choose F1648-EPL when you need compatibility with PE substrates or an existing PE sealing process.
Where does F1648-EPL's OTR of 1.3 rank across Intlpak's barrier films?
Mid-range. Better than the PP/EVOH/PP family at 2.6 and level with F1257 , but behind F1201 at 0.9 and F1256 at 0.65. Moisture barrier at 9 g/m²·24h is solid. If what you want is dual PP/PE surface behaviour with moderate barrier, its position is clear.
F1648-EPL's haze is 35% — can that work for retail packaging?
It can, but not for designs that sell through visibility. 35% is distinctly hazy, far above the PE family's 4–5%, so it suits full-coverage printed packs or applications where the contents need not be seen. For a clear window, move to F1201 or F1249 and recover the sealing behaviour through lamination.
F1648-EPL's modulus of 5500/5000 is relatively high — what does that indicate?
A stiff, dimensionally stable web. Reaching 5500/5000 kg/cm² at just 45 μm means it resists sag and wander at line speed and holds print registration well. The counterpart figure is elongation of only 350%/360% — stiffness comes with reduced extensibility, so it is not a deep-draw forming film.
How does F1648-EPL relate to F1645?
They are the two 45 μm grades in the same line, both now backed by the same Technical Data Sheet (Ver. EN250730-PVP). F1648-EPL is the hazier, stiffer grade (35% haze, 5500/5000 kg/cm² modulus), while F1645 runs clearer (7% haze) with somewhat higher elongation — see the full comparison table above for the point-by-point differences.
Customers complain the lid is too hard to peel off — what changes that?
The sealant layer, not the seal settings alone. An easy-peel film is engineered to fail cleanly at the seal interface at a controlled force, so the lid lifts in one piece without stringing or tearing the tray flange. F1648-EPL is Intlpak's 45 μm easy-peel barrier grade, holding an OTR of 1.3 cc/m²·24h — the same oxygen figure as the conventional-seal F1645.
Does an easy-open film mean giving up a clear window onto the product?
Partly, and the figure is published so you can judge it. F1648-EPL reads 35% haze against F1645's 7% at the same 45 μm and the same OTR of 1.3 cc/m²·24h — the peelable structure trades transparency for the clean opening. Where the pack sells on product visibility, keep the conventional seal; where opening experience decides, the easy-peel grade is the one.
